Which Microsoft Visio versions are supported?
SemTalk supports Microsoft Visio 2010, 2013 and 2016.
Microsoft Visio and Microsoft SharePoint
In order to use SemTalk, you must install Visio 2010 or higher. SemTalk,
Microsoft Visio is a software to create diagrams. It provides a platform to visualize, analyze and communicate complex information, systems and processes. Professional Visio diagrams provide a faster and better understanding of complex problems.
What are the advantages SemTalk adds over using Microsoft Visio as a standalone application? SemTalk enriches the graphical capabilities of Microsoft Visio with a built-in database. This allows users to reuse the same modeling elements on different pages or in different files. The user interface is simplified compared to Microsoft Visio, so that powerful models can be built with a short learning curve and minimal effort.
How is SemTalk Integrated with Visio 2016?
With the release of Visio 2016 / Visio for Office 365, Microsoft has converted Visio to a continuous update platform so that new features are automatically made available. Compared to previous versions, many new functionalities were installed and a considerable number of errors have been repaired. Particularly noteworthy is smart diagramming, which enables diagrams to be generated from Excel tables. The user can define which symbols are to be used for each column and define in which order the entries are to be linked. This makes it possible for you to collect necessary model information in Excel and to generate diagrams from this data.
Another highlight is the simplified use of data graphs that turn Visio diagrams into dashboards. This is particularly interesting in the context of SemTalk Services since the combination of these tools allows powerful portals to be generated with minimal effort.
SemTalk, by embedding model data in a SharePoint eco-system, allows Visio to become a graphical editor for SharePoint's knowledge space.
Microsoft SharePoint is used by SemTalk as object repository (object store), portal and document management system.
Modeling elements are stored in SharePoint lists. Users have access to these items and may use them in their processes. The finalized models are stored in SharePoint document libraries. This means that all functionality for versioning, management of user rights and metadata, along with workflow execution data are available via SharePoint. HTML versions of SemTalk models can be published in SharePoint or on a remote server.
Examples of typical SharePoint content:
- Model Library
- HTML Library
- Role List
- System List
- Business Object List (Glossary)
We recommend using SemTalk Services in combination with a SharePoint portal or your own Web Server to make it easy to publish your process models in a portal.
